On the day of the team’s IPL victory celebration in Bengaluru, a massive crowd gathered outside Chinnaswamy Stadium. Unfortunately, due to poor planning and lack of security, the event ended in disaster. Eleven people lost their lives, and nearly 50 were injured in a stampede as fans tried to enter the stadium.

Many fans had bought tickets and traveled from far to see their cricket heroes, including star player Virat Kohli. However, chaos started building early in the day. Tickets for the event were sold out quickly, but poor crowd management led to huge numbers of people showing up at the stadium gates. Security was overwhelmed.

Most fans crowded around Gates 12, 13, and 10, trying to get inside. But by around 3:30 PM, the number of people had grown far beyond what was expected. Fearing a total collapse of control, police and stadium security decided to shut the gates completely even for those who had valid tickets.

Shetty said he felt hurt and helpless. “I don’t know what we did wrong. We were invited, we paid for tickets, and then we were treated like criminals,” he added.

The situation worsened around 4:30 PM, In IPL 2025 final when more fans arrived from the nearby Cubbon Park metro station. With pressure building, police used force to try and control the crowd. At Gate No. 10, the scene turned even uglier. Women and children were pushed and shoved. A reporter at the spot was also hit and abused by a police officer.

As the crowd grew more desperate, panic set in. Several people fainted. Others were caught in the crush of bodies and were trampled. Many fans who had managed to escape were thankful just to be alive. Some left the venue injured, while others were too shocked to speak.

From outside, it was painful to watch. People fainted, and a few were seen being carried away by others. The lucky ones walked away shaken but safe.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia commented on the tragedy, saying, “When one organizes a celebration of this size, safety and security must be the top priority.” He noted the lack of proper planning and control that led to the disaster.
